The stunning Peak District
There are hundreds of amazing places to visit all across the Peaks. Castleton couldn't be better placed as a base to explore every single one.
Mam Tor and the Great Ridge can be seen from the rear garden. Peveril Castle and the Peak Cavern from the front of the property.
We will continuosly update this page with places, walks and recommendations.

There's a number of stopping points to admire the view. The only question is, do you walk back down Winnats or continue to Mam Tor!?

Dragging our uncle Karl up Cavedale with views of Peveril Castle. Its an absolute must and only a few minutes from Buttercup

Looking towards Winnats and Mamtor this spot is literally 5 minutes walk from Buttercup. We do this circular every morning.

Stopping for a 5 minute sit down overlooking Castleton around the back of Peveril Castle having walked up Cavedale, an absolute must!

Has to be our favourite walk. A few minutes from the doorstep head over the to the war memorial and turn right.

Walking from Dunscar Farm around the back of Castleton this walk brings you out to the s-bend in the village.
Circular walk behind Castleton

Buddy and Mark do this walk almost every morning. Circle back down to Buttercup, takes 35 minutes at a fast pace.

Winter stunning scenery

Walking right out of the cottage you will walk along the foot for the ridge. Stunning hill and farm views, you can walk towards Winnats.
5 minutes from Buttercup Cottage

Descending Loose Hill behind Hope the sunset was stunning. We had walked the whole ridge that day and stopped in the The Old Hall in Hope.

We took a 4 month old Bobby, Ed's son for a hike across Edale, just 10 minutes from Buttercup. Park in the village walk up and turn right.

This walk is quieter than most and you start from the front door turning right up Goosehill or climbing up the ridge via Cavedale.

Has to be our favourite pub garden only 4 mins walk from Buttercup. Views of Mam Tor and Peveril Castle can be enjoyed over a pint... or 2!

A few minutes walk is Peak Cavern, well worth a visit and particularly when bands are playing! We love to walk up to it when its dark.

Truly stunning in winter Castleton is a magical time. The village puts on a Xmas light parade and we decorate the cottage.

Once you have walked up Cavedale you can walk across the ridge towards Winnats Pass. Around 45-1hrs walk from the cottage.

A stunning natural cave about 45 mins drive from Castleton. Absolutely amazing to thing this was created millions of years ago by water.

Just below the hill and behind the Castle you can spot the cottage. Stunning views across the ridge and across to Mam Tor.

About 20 mins drive on the other side of Hathersage this Lord of the Rings'esq wood is stunning. There's a bridge across towards the bottom
Padley Gorge is a must

Chatsworth House offers amazing circular walks. We prefer to park on the right after the cattle grid and walk past the garden centre.

Scaling the dragons back is stunning, this was taken in January, slightly muddy, windy and cold. We earned the pub visit afterwards!

Here the gang went on a walk around forests and streams near Buxton. Offers a completely different feel to the rest of the Peaks.

Simply walking the main road away from Castleton towards Winnats. There are paths to the left and right that circle back to Buttercup.

An absolute must for curry fans. They deliver but also bring your own wine/beers in-house. Make sure to go for the Chef's specials.
The Curry Cabin in Hope

On the other side of Ladybower reservoir is the famous Snake's Pass about 15 mins drive from Buttercup. There's lots of laybys to park up.

Worth a visit but can become crowded, perhaps a midweek visit is best. Stunning walk down the river, approx 45 minute drive.

Overlooking the Edale valley from the rear of Mam Tor. It offers stunning views of the valley and also a great widning drive.
5 mins drive to Mam Tor

Approximately 20 mins drive is Monsal Head. Its a stunning view over the valley and to the viaduct which was once a railway but now a trail.
